Found a Deeper Meaning of Core with AMP Pilates
Ever have those weird yet meant to be ways of meeting people? That is how I met Megan from AMP Pilates, we started following each other on Instagram, met for coffee and began a fitness-friendship from there.
I had never done pilates on the reformer before about a year and a half ago. In high school I would do Winsor Pilates on VHS tapes (flash back to those days, huh?) But when a new reformer based pilates studio came to Northern Colorado, AMP Pilates and Fitness, is where I grew a love for pilates!
The owner’s vision for the studio is a more contemporary athletic style pilates, but also based from the classic and more traditional movements. They strive to build an all inclusive energetic more athletic based Pilates community and BONUS for us momma’s they have childcare, which my daughter asks to ‘Go to Pilates?’ all the time!
Once her studio was open I try my best to go once a week for cross training. I have found since going to Pilates I work muscles that I never known I would of have with out the reformer work. I have found such a deeper meaning of core work as well and found my core has become much stronger with the work done on the Pilates reformer. I have also been more mindful and found that I focus more on the connection of muscles attached to what movement I am doing. Which is the idea behind Pilates based on a great quote from Joseph Pilates.
“Concentrate on the correct movement each time you exercise, lest you do them improperly and thus lose all the vital benefits. Correctly executed and mastered to the point of subconscious reaction, these exercises will reflect grace and balance in your routine activities.” – Joseph Pilates
They have done a great job at the studio of creating a great community since opening. AMP offers childcare which is huge for us mommas because it allows us to workout with a lot of options throughout the week. With Pilates becoming more popular for men, AMP has a good amount of men joining in and reaping the benefits from Pilates too. So it just isn’t for the ladies!
Over the past 6 years I have dealt with some mysterious sacrum and glute issues. Pilates has been so great to get ALL my muscles properly firing and working like they should. Some times you need to take a step back and get back to the basic to get the full benefit of working out. Pilates has been that for me, kind of like my P.T, working on mobility, stretching, strengthening with the reformer and lengthening. Yet I’m gaining so much core strength and seeing a huge change in my other workouts from a stronger core and all my muscles firing properly.
I would love to have you join me with one of the great teachers at AMP Pilates and Fitness, check out their website to see class descriptions. I promise you will take your core and fitness to a whole new level by adding Pilates into your workout routine!
